A Love for Sara Groves and Cabinet Doors

Here is my confession...

I have 150 gazillion projects to show y'all and tons of photos already edited to be blogged about...but sometimes, the words just won't come.  I know, it's a lame excuse to not blog and keep y'all up to date with all the things that I have been working on.  Sometimes, I get on here and upload all my pictures and start to type....

and nothing...

I'm sorry..really, I am...and I've got to do better...even if this means posts with no words, only pictures, which, let's be honest, for the most part, the pictures are the only thing we really care to see, right?!  Unless we're in need of a tutorial or a few directions...

So, here's to posts without words and only pictures, or with lots of words and no pictures, or with a little of both.

I have registered for a really exciting craft show in November...

It's an entire elementary school that uses all of their facilities for a 2 day craft show to raise money for the school.  It always has a great turnout, both vendors and shoppers alike, and I have never been able to get on the list to sell...until this year!
So, needless to say I have been busying myself, trying to come up with a lot of product, especially since this is a two day event.

In my Etsy shop, I do a lot with canvases and burlap, because they are lighter weight and more affordable to ship....but my real passion is taking something that is no longer being used, and repurposing, painting, and giving new life to it.  I have some great friends who are always on the lookout for me and others who are shop owners and who are willing to hand over what I like to call "Oopsies" or "Uh-Oh's" when they make the wrong size of something in their shop.

Thus, all of the cabinet doors!  These guys are GREAT canvases by the way...

I've been painting these babies up in preparation for the show.  I'll have a few canvases available but mostly painted windows, pallet boards, barn wood, cabinet doors, and so on.

In painting, I always have music playing.  Most of the time I just listen to instrumental hymns, but I also enjoy the Sara Groves station on Pandora.

This song came on the other night while I was painting and it got me to thinking.

Come October, we will have owned our home for a year.  It's taken me this long to decide on a saying to paint and hang on the wall in our master bedroom... and these song lyrics by Sara Groves are perfect.

If you've never heard of or listened to any of her music, you are missing out.  She has such a passion for the Lord and her songs speak so boldly to that.

Loving a Person
-Sara Groves

Loving a person just the way they are, it's no small thing

It takes some time to see things through

Sometimes things change, sometimes we're waiting

We need grace either way

Hold on to me

I'll hold on to you

Let's find out the beauty of seeing things through

There's a lot of pain in reaching out and trying

It's a vulnerable place to be

Love and pride can't occupy the same spaces baby

Only one makes you free

Hold on to me

I'll hold on to you

Let's find out the beauty of seeing things through

If we go looking for offense

We're going to find it

If we go looking for real love

We're going to find it

Such a beautiful song...

such a beautiful picture this paints...

not only of me and the Mr. but also of us and Christ...

there is beauty in seeing this thing through...

Hold on to Him...because He's holding on to you...

XoXo,
Nicole

  1. This sign is so beautiful!! You are very talented! I'm looking at your etsy site now and I love it. I'm thinking about the eph 3:20 sign for my living room! question, do you free hand the words on this sign or do you use stencils?

    1. Thank you so much Jessica! I love painting...it's a joy!

I would love to do a canvas for your living room!

I don't use stencils when I paint. I take my image and transfer it to the canvas with chalk or pencil, and then use that as a guide to free hand the words? Does that make sense? If you have any more questions, feel free to message me on etsy, also!

Thanks again for your kind words!

  2. Nicole,

I found you by doing an "image" search on google for Sara Grove "Loving a Person". I would love, love, love to buy a sign just like the one you made. My daughter is getting married this June. She started taking piano lessons last summer, at age 22, so that she can learn this song and sing it for her fiancé at their wedding. He knows nothing about her lessons. She has a beautiful voice but does not like to sing in public so this is a huge gift for him. I would like to buy the "hold on to me and I'll hold on to you...(etc.)" and give it to them as a wedding gift.

Please let me know if this is a possibility.

    Thank you, and bless you!

    1. Hey Janet!

I would be honored to do this for you. It sounds like you have raised a beautifully spirited woman and you are gaining a very blessed son in law. This will be such a special memory for the two of them and having something to remember that by will be a precious gift!

If you don't mind, send me an email at sashtotreasure@hotmail.com or go to my etsy page https://www.etsy.com/shop/sashtotreasure and send me a message there. That way we can talk more about the size, colors, and cost!

      Thank you!

      Nicole

Thank you again for allowing me to be a part of their special day!
