chair + paint + burlap

 

I found these two chairs at Habitat for $10 a piece.  A little more than I would have liked to spend on chairs but I am sure happy I did.

 

I love painting furniture...or what I like to call, giving it a face lift.. and my favorite color to paint is usually WHITE.  I'm sure my husband probably thinks I'm lacking in the creativity department because every time I bring home a piece of furniture to paint, he's like, "Let me guess, you're gonna paint it white?"  My response..."Yes sir!"

I had planned on keeping the two chairs together, maybe with a small table in between.  My first thought was in front of the fireplace... Well, that just looked goofy.  And, being winter time and all, I may have just paid $20 for some firewood because I'm pretty sure they would have caught fire.  Needless to say, the fireplace was out.  Which meant the living room was out, for now, at least.

I tried the foyer, the empty corner in the dining room, and then the spare room we have downstairs, non of which seemed to work.  The chairs were just too small for each of those spaces.

And then I tried it here...true love and perfection!  This is our upstairs.  It was empty and lonely and need a little tlc.  I've been trying to dress up the downstairs since that's most of what people see when they come to visit.  Upstairs, we have our bedroom, guest bedroom, my husbands office, my craft room, and our bathroom.  So, me and my hubby are really the only ones who spend time up there.  And now, our upstairs,  or just this part of it, has been introduced to ya'll.

I painted her white, actually I think the accurate name would be "Ashen."  Then I roughed her up a bit, recovered the seat with burlap {what else would I have used!} Put a few screws in the bottom to hold the seat on, and that was it. 

She is so photogenic.  Don't you just love items that photograph well?

I used an old ice cream crate that mama found at a yard sale as a little side table.  It was in super condition, stained a beautiful dark color and coated with polyurethane.  I just turned it up on its side, found a pretty {white} vase, and added a burst of color with the faux yellow bells.

Below is just an up close shot at some of the distressing on this chair.  I just used a little sanding block.  Nothing electric.

This is one of my favorite pictures.  I think it is just so classy.  I may use it for some advertising for Sash to Treasure.

Some people may have lost interest in this chair because of that little spot in the middle.  Maybe some of the veneer peeled off, but I think it added character.  I'm a fan of the imperfections. 

It may be too soon for the yellow bells, considering it is only the beginning of February... But I'm going with it!

And the groundhog says springs gonna come early....and I would be very happy with that prediction.  The house needs a little color and so does my skin...a little sunshine is always good for the soul!

There you have it...a sneak peek at our upstairs and, although I know I'm biased, a snazzy makeover for an old chair. 

One day, her and her sister may be used together and when that happens, I know it will be a marvelous duo.  But for now, this little chair is going solo, shining bright, and making a statement!
